Typical REU day

9.00 - 11.00 AM

REU participants typically arrive at their research lab at 9.00 AM. Meet with their team and carry out their assigned research tasks. Research tasks vary based on the project and may include taking sensor readings, designing circuits, collect samples, or prepare polymer solutions.

11.00 AM - Noon

Attend a workshop. Workshop topics include effective utilization of research tools, preparing for job interviews, career building workshops, technical writing and presentation

1.00 - 3.30 PM

Onsite Research activities - Field trips to Keweenaw Bay, KBIC Natural Resources Department, MTU green house, Sand Point beach, Fisheries etc.

4.00 - 5.00 PM

Check-in for daily report and Research Group Meeting

Evening Hours

Participants will have plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities – hiking, biking, kayaking, etc

Cultural Exchange

Participants also get to engage in community exchange and service-learning field trips with the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community – such as KBIC Pow Wow, KBIC Lake Superior Day at Ojibwa Public Recreation Area etc.

Note: The activities planned for each day depend on the individual project requirements and scheduling. Activities may be planned on different days of the week
